Haltwhistle Interpretation Panels

Differentia was appointed to design and produce interpretation materials for the Connecting People to the Past initiative. The project will complement other projects being carried out in Haltwhistle e.g. Town Improvement Scheme and the Haltwhistle Burn Interpretation Project to improve the physical appearance of Haltwhistle and provide better orientation and interpretative information. In addition it will help enhance the visitor experience and engender a sense of local pride in the heritage of the town.

What is Interpretation?

We have just created a little video – little as it is short and very modest. It is kind of a summary of our What is Interpretation guide available as a pdf. This video shows some of the different types of interpretation panels and interpretation projects we have been involved in over the last few years.

Here is the video – you can play in Youtube here. Or just play direct from this website. The subjects include:

  • Oban Interpretation Project – panels created in Natural Stoneware
  • Luing Interpretation Project – GRP and slate and stone plinths
  • Caledonia Way – gates and stone structures
  • Bishop Auckland Town Trail Interpretation
  • Lemington – Newburn Interpretation

Differentia has moved into new offices in Hexham.

So what else is new.

Busy as ever of course and here is why:

Interpretation

We have won a few tenders lately including a fantastic new project starting in Haltwhistle very soon. We are still working in Scotland on the Sustrans Route 72 between Oban and Fort William – the Caledonia Way.

We just wrapping up an Interpretation Management Plan for Natural England for a site in upper Teessdale – we spent a few sunny days on hay meadows this summer researching this (no honest!)

Gateshead Council – We are starting a wee project in Springwell very soon – on the site of an old quarry that once supplied millstones for grinding tools!

We are still looking for outlets for our exclusive interpretation panels made in stone.

Print and Design
We have a lush project for the Federation of City Farms and Gardens starting in a few weeks. This project will be looking at all the signage for the organisation that is concerned with Health and Safety. Might sound a bit boring at first but we are working as a team – Antonia, Dave and me – and we will be working with small groups of adults with learning disabilties, children and non English speakers. Should be fun.

Websites
We have just completed the first stage of SES.coop (not live yet!). This project involved us creating a photographic project in order to capture really great pics and stories for the website.

Illustration
Our website – www.wildifeillustration.com – is doing great at the moment with customers from the south buying images at great prices as well as commissioning new ones.

What’s happening in the world
Well despite of perhaps because of everyone tghtening their belts there is still a need for businesses to look at their marketing. In particular their websites and the opportunities that an active website.

So what is an active website?
In a nutshell on that changes regularly and has new stuff added to it often. One that says something of interest and is easy to buy into, i.e. that is easy to get around. We are using WordPress as our main Content Management System these days – although our website is a static one as we do it ourself!

We are finding that businesses still want design and publicity for their companies and are willing to pay for it. BUT they want a lot more for their money than perhaps a year ago. Hey and so do I!

WHICH IS WHY I HAVE DUMPED IT! So I now have an IP address phone line with a Newcastle code and it costs me nowt! So put that in your pipe and smoke it BT!

…. and more next time.
