Whitelee Windfarm toposcope interpretation disc, Glasgow, Scotland

Whitelee Windfarm toposcope interpretation disc, Glasgow, Scotland

The Bronze Toposcope is now complete and installed at Europe’s largest windfarm. The interpretation features include a large 1.5 metre bronze disc with a landscape panorama of the surrounding scene as well as topographical features and four supporting discs illustrating the local heritage.

These smaller discs include poetry in English and Gaelic.

Whitelee Windfarm is located on Eaglesham Moor just 20 minutes from central Glasgow. The windfarm has 140 turbines which can generate 322MW of electricity, enough to power 180,000 homes. Entry to the windfarm and visitor centre is free and with an interactive exhibition and over 70km of trails, there is a lot to explore!Over the past ten years Whitelee has been carefully planned and designed to work in harmony with the existing environment and after three years of construction the windfarm is fully operational and producing clean, green energy.

Whitelee’s trails are great for cycling, walking and even horse riding. However, we do ask that you follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code at all times. Whitelee is also home to a 25 square kilometre area of habitat management, one of the largest in the UK with lots of interesting species to spot like merlin and black grouse.

Here are the poems for the images:

Lover of the Gaels
Reaching below a boiling sea
An island sentinel looks on
A towering inferno of noise
Euo Ban An Sgadain
White bird of the herring

Dunwan Hill
The flat top summit of Dunwan Hill
Rides the wind
Of time and change
A conce safe haven
for hill top folk
Keeper of hearts and memories

Eaglesham
A simple clock
On a white church
A gathering of hearts and minds
A steady beat
Against marching time
An in-breath when all around is turmoil

The bracken on high
A slow fern
Uncurls and whispers
The ancient breath of Dunwan Hill
Chases the blades
The high air sings
A wind unfurling
Whitelee on high
