Empreinte is a French company that specializes in the creation and production of enamelled tourist signage. Empreinte mainly uses mineral products such as lava stone and extruded stoneware. Thanks to its expertise in enamelling and serigraphy techniques, Empreinte is able to offer its customers very high quality orientation tables, thematic trail signage (historical, natural…), frescoes, coats of arms and commemorative plaques.
Lava stone has been used for roadside signage for over a century. Michelin plaques were to be found throughout towns and villages from the end of the First World War onwards. Some milestones and many signposts and street signs can still be seen today and are still in good condition. The Touring club de France also had many enamelled lava orientation tables made as early as 1908.

Thanks to enamelled lava Empreinte are now able to produce tourist signage that's just a little bit different as well as being natural based. The natural aspect of lava, which is a local product, gives a unique finish to all visual features, and exceptional depth of colour.

Unaffected by the heat, cold, sea air and exceptionally resistant to any form of aggression (graffiti, scratching and boring) enamelled lava gives you long-lasting signage with excellent staying power.
Here are some key points about this type of signage:
- UV resistance totally unaffected
- Removal of graffiti by all types of solvents
- Resistance to scratching and boring
- Excellent, without consequence on decorative features
- Does not freeze, is unaffected by heat, cold and sea air
- Unusual shapes All shapes possible
We are looking at this product for a number of our projects, especially on the west coast of Scotland in coastal locations.
